Equality, Service & Excellence
Washington, DC – (January 25, 2009). On Saturday, January 24th, The Links, Incorporated was recognized for its contributions and accomplishments for the betterment of society at a ceremony in Atlanta sponsored by the Trumpet Awards Foundation, Incorporated. The induction into the International Civil Rights Walk of Fame is a distinct honor reserved for those people and organizations that have significantly contributed to enhancing the quality of life for all and augmented global society by partnering with the cause of justice and equality.
“I could not be more proud of all The Links, Incorporated chapters and members that have made this honor possible,” stated Gwendolyn B. Lee, National President. “To be recognized along with so many others that experienced such sacrifice, suffering and struggle and still made the world a better place is truly humbling.”
The International Civil Rights Walk of Fame was created in Atlanta at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site. Several footprints of noble men and women have been imbedded in granite along the route. This permanent tribute attracts thousands of visitors who come to stand in the footprints and become inspired by the lives represented.
Additional inductees this year included Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Cathy Hughes and Reverend Al Sharpton.
