Day 1 - Wednesday, July 2, 2008

Sixty women gathered for this year’s Scott Hawkins Leadership Institute (SHLI) training. more »

Attendees of the 36th National Assembly were treated to the vocal talents of Denyce Graves during the Opening Concert. Ms. Xernona Clayton was awarded The Links, Incorporated Lifetime Achievement Award. She is the founder, president, and CEO of the Trumpet Awards Foundation, Inc., a prestigious event highlighting African American accomplishments and contributions. more »

Day 2 - Thursday, July 3, 2008

At the Legacy Luncheon, Links members celebrated 62 years of sincere friendship and dedicated service. Past administration was honored for their work and committee with the Links.

A World-Class Evening of Elegance and Entertainment featured a fashion show with special musical guest and distinguished soul singer, Phil Perry. Proceeds from the event and the silent auction benefited The Links Foundation, Incorporated. (Sponsored by Saturn)

Day 3 - Friday, July 4, 2008

Assembly attendees joined the Seattle/Tacoma Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure in the Walk for Healthy Living and Breast Cancer Awareness.

At the Program Luncheon, Susan L. Taylor, former editor-in-chief and editorial director of Essence magazine, and founder of National Cares Mentoring Movement, served as the keynote speaker for the event. more »

Members and their families enjoyed a festive Fourth of July Family Picnic to celebrate America’s birthday. (Sponsored by the Coca-Cola Company)

Day 4 - Saturday, July 5, 2008

Nordstrom was the official sponsor for this year’s Friendship Breakfast. Links, Connecting Links, and Heir-o-Links enjoyed breakfast and shopping when the Nordstrom store opened its store exclusively for them.

Link Joan Higginbotham, a retired astronaut, was the guest speaker at this year’s Civic Luncheon. (Sponsored by The Boeing Company)

A long-held tradition, the White Rose Banquet wrapped up this year’s national assembly. Platinum and 50-Year members were honored at the event. (Sponsored by Saturn)

Highlights Throughout the Assembly

The 36th National Assembly offered a variety of inspiration and informative Program/Operational Workshops such as “Are you Fiscally Fit? Take Control of Your Financial Future”, “A Change is Gonna Come: Maximizing Your Influence in the Community”, and “Utilizing Technology to Provide World-Class Leadership”.

This year’s vendor showcase did not disappoint! In addition, Safeco Insurance sponsored a Cyber Café where attendees could check their email and stay abreast to the outside world via the Internet. 

In between assembly events, Link members got a chance to explore the great city of Seattle.
