The Links Foundation, Incorporated wins $70,000 AT&T Grant Helps Close Academic Achievement Gap in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education
WASHINGTON – The Links Foundation, Incorporated is pleased to announce that it has been selected for a $70,000 grant from AT&T, in support of STEM education. These funds will be used to help reduce the STEM academic achievement gap for students of color and help to prepare them for the 21st century workforce.
The grant provides essential funding to one of the key programs of The Links, Incorporated, "STEM – ULATING Left Brain and Right Brain." This program aims to enhance the current curriculum, emphasizing STEM disciplines, engineering and energy industry career readiness and is geared towards students from 6th to 12th grades. The partnership with AT&T will allow The Links, Incorporated to reach an additional 1,200 students, primarily those from low-income homes.
A key enhancement of the program is the incorporation of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration STEM Application content. The content includes educational and professional development, as well as teacher training tools.
"It is very important for our youth to be exposed to and ready for STEM – related careers," said Margot James Copeland, national president of The Links, Incorporated and The Links Foundation, Incorporated. "Through our STEM – ULATING Left Brain and Right Brain program, students will be enriched and engaged in STEM education. This AT&T collaboration will have a tremendous impact on all of the students it reaches."
"As leaders in the technology industry, we see that the need for technology professionals continues to increase," said Tonya Lombard, assistant vice president of Public Affairs at AT&T. "In partnering with The Links Foundation, Incorporated, we hope to provide more opportunities and access for all students interested in STEM – related careers."
